Diminished value, insurer by insurer

The law decides whether you can claim. The carrier decides how hard it will be. These profiles cover 12 carriers representing roughly 79% of the US auto market: where to send the demand, what to expect, and how to escalate.

Calculate my claim first

One thing that applies everywhere

Do not mail your demand to a corporate address

Almost none of the national carriers publish a single claims mailing address. The address on a corporate contact page is a head office or a general-correspondence PO box, and a demand letter sent there is delayed or lost. It does not reach the adjuster holding your file.

The correct address is claim-specific. Take it from the adjuster's own letterhead, the claim acknowledgement, or the claims portal. If you cannot find one, call the claims line, get the adjuster's name, and ask them in writing for the mailing address tied to your claim number. Then send it certified with return receipt, and email a PDF copy to the adjuster the same day so it exists in the electronic file regardless.

How to read these pages

These profiles describe documented and reported claim-handling practices, compiled from carrier materials, regulator resources and court opinions, and last reviewed 2026-07-28. Where a point comes from a commercial appraisal firm rather than the carrier or a regulator, the page says so, that distinction matters and we do not blur it. Nothing here alleges wrongdoing by any company, and none of it is legal advice.
